Avaya Stadium to Host U.S. MNT Friendly against Costa Rica February 2

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes and U.S. Soccer announced today that Avaya Stadium in San Jose will host the U.S. Men's National Team for a friendly against Costa Rica on Saturday, Feb. 2. The match will be televised on FS1 and Univision Networks, with kickoff time to be announced at a later date.

"It's always an honor and pleasure to host the U.S. National Team at Avaya Stadium," said Earthquakes President Tom Fox. "We have an incredibly passionate fanbase here in the Bay Area and expect they'll turn up in numbers to support the red, white and blue."

Slated as the second of two games that are part of the MNT's annual January Camp, the friendly vs. Costa Rica is part of a series of tests the USA faces in advance of the 2019 Gold Cup, the first official competition in the 2022 World Cup cycle. The first 2019 January Camp friendly will be announced later.

Earthquakes Season Pass Holders will have access to an exclusive presale on Thursday, Nov. 29. Tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Friday, Nov. 30. All tickets sales will go through www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets will not be sold at Avaya Stadium until the day of the event.

The U.S. Men's National Team has played at Avaya Stadium on one previous occasion, defeating Honduras 6-0 on March 24, 2017 as part of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying. The U.S. have had a history of success in San Jose, posting an undefeated 3-0-2 record. The U.S. also played its opening match of the 2016 Copa America Centenario against Colombia in Santa Clara.

This will be the 38th meeting between the United States and Costa Rica, with the U.S. carrying an all-time record of 14-17-6. The match will come on the 16-year anniversary of the USA's 2-0 victory against Costa Rica in the 2002 Concacaf Gold Cup Final.

While this will be just the second time the U.S. Men will compete at Avaya Stadium, the U.S. Women's National Team have played many successful matches on Quakes' turf, most recently defeating Chile 4-0 in September. Overall, the U.S. Women are 4-0-0 at Avaya Stadium, earning wins against Ireland in 2015 (3-0), Romania in 2016 (8-1) and Canada in 2017 (3-1).
