Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - Salem jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back, en-route to an 11-2 win over the Potomac Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium Wednesday Night.
The three-run first inning was highlighted by Francisco Caraballo's two-out, two-run home run, his 13th of the season. Ender Chavez led the way offensively for the Nationals with two hits and two RBI.
Avalanche starter Felipe Paulino (8-7) worked six innings to pick up his third consecutive win. Nats starter Craig Stammen suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.
The Nationals loss paired with a Frederick Keys win means the Nats are 7.5 games behind with 12 games left. With the win, the Avalanche hold a six game lead over Myrtle Beach in the Southern Division with 12 games to play.
The win was a season high eighth consecutive for Salem. The loss marked the sixth in-a-row for Potomac.
The series concludes Thursday, August 24th at 7:05 PM at Pfitzner Stadium. RHP Shairon Martis will start for the Nationals while RHP Tip Fairchild counters for the Avalanche.
