Salem Red Sox News Release
SALEM, VA-The Salem Avalanche pushed four runs across home plate in the first inning and used the momentum to cruise to a 4-0 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in a five-inning rain-shortened affair at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Avalanche scored the first two runs of the game on a two-run double by Mario Garza. Garza came around to score on a single by Ervin Alcantara. Saul Torres added an RBI to make it 4-0 Salem. The umpires called the Avalanche off the field before the sixth inning began. Rain and thunderstorms prevented the game from re-starting.
Mitch Talbot got the win for Salem after pitching five innings of scoreless ball and allowing just two hits. He's now 5-7 on the year. Steve Langone falls to 3-5 after taking the loss in a game where he tossed five innings and allowed four runs on five hits.
