Austin Toros Partner With Southwest Key Programs

Austin, TX September 3, 2009 - The Austin Toros will partner with Southwest Key Programs to sponsor the Fore the Kids Golf Classic on Monday, October 19th at Grey Rock Golf Club. The tournament is a shotgun start at 1:30p.m. with dinner, awards, and a live auction to follow. Toros staff, mascot, and dance team will take part in the day's events sponsored by Chevron and Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the East Austin College Prep Academy and the Toros community ticket program. The academy, governed by Southwest Key Programs opened its' doors for the first time to approximately 100 students in August. The free charter school will serve as a model middle school to prepare students, regardless of economic background, for a rigorous high school curriculum, graduation, and ultimately success in college.

The Toros community ticket program provides tickets to non-profits and programs that support underserved youth in the central Texas area. Additionally, half of the monies raised by the Toros will be donated back to Southwest Key to purchase a canopy for the outdoor basketball court located at the academy.

"Dr. Juan Sanchez and his team at Southwest Key Programs have built something special for the East Austin community and the Austin Toros are proud to be a partner in their launch," said Peter Lubell, Toros COO. "We look forward to welcoming business and community leaders from Austin and its surrounding areas at the Fore the Kids Golf Classic and raising money for an important cause."
