Austin Toros Add Slam Dunk Contest to All-Star Games

AUSTIN, TX March 31, 2011 - The Austin Toros today announced the addition of a dunk contest to the 2011 Dennis Johnson Memorial High School All-Star Classic games on April 2 at Cedar Park Center. The prelims will take place during half-time of the Girl's All-Star game that starts at 3:00p.m. The finals will take place during half-time of the Toros' game that tips off at 7:30p.m. The Boy's All-Star game starts at 4:30 p.m. Four senior athletes were selected from the north and south rosters of the boy's teams. Contest judges include local celebrities and Toros' all-star mascot, Da Bull. Time Warner Cable and the United States Army are presenting the annual game that honors former NBA great, and 2010 Hall of Fame inductee, Dennis Johnson who was the head coach of the Toros at the time of his passing.

"We are focused on the development of youth basketball throughout Central Texas," said Peter Lubell, Toros Chief Operating Officer. "Our annual All-Star Games and now the slam dunk competition will spotlight the top student athletes from the area and from what I understand, fans will be amazed at what they'll see Saturday night."

Over 40 seniors from local area high schools are participating in the all-star activities, including many who were honored as McDonald's All American nominations and who will continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level next year. Both all-star games will take place prior to the Toros final home game at 7:30 p.m. against the Texas Legends.
