Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, IA, Feb 21, 2013- With the score tied and the shot clock off - the Iowa Energy had a chance to take the last shot in their game against Austin Thursday night. Othyus Jeffers pulled up for an 18-footer that went in and out, giving Austin 0.8 seconds to work with. In a season that has been full of tough losses, none have been more painful than watching Austin throw an alley-oop to JaMychal Green at the rim to beat the Energy 105-103.
Iowa controlled most of the game, and led 82-69 with 3:54 left in the 3rd quarter. Austin went on a 15-0 run to take an 84-82 lead early in the final quarter.
The two Central Division rivals traded buckets throughout the final period, and Austin held a slim 103-100 lead with under a minute left when Jeffers scored and was fouled. The ensuing free throw knotted the score at 103-103.
On Austin's next possession, Paul Harris stripped the Toros' Cory Joseph, forcing a shot clock violation. Iowa took over with 10.9 seconds left.
After winding down the clock, Jeffers' jumper appeared to be all the way in, but rattled out, setting up the last second drama.
Chris Wright led Iowa with 23 points and 11 assists while Justin Hurtt added 23 points. Jarrid Famous finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Joseph and Rick Jackson each scored 16 points. Joseph dished out 10 assists while Jackson corralled 17 rebounds in the win for the Toros.
The same two teams go toe-to-toe tomorrow night at 7pm in Des Moines. For tickets, call 564-8550, visit IowaNBA.com or stop by the arena box office.
