Austin Spurs Local Player Tryouts Scheduled for September 19 and 20

Austin, TX (July 23, 2015) - The Austin Spurs today announced they will host local player tryouts on Sept. 19 in San Antonio and Sept. 20 in Austin. Check-in for the day-long tryout begins at 8:30 a.m.
The Austin Spurs are the NBA Development League affiliate of the five-time NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs. Former tryout participants include Jonathon Simmons, Eric Dawson, Terrence Woodbury and Devondrick Walker. All have gone on to play overseas, in the NBA Development League and the NBA.
Jonathon Simmons has played for the Austin Spurs the past two seasons and recently signed with the San Antonio Spurs. He played in seven games with the Spurs 2015 Summer League team in Las Vegas and averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 24.6 minutes. He was named MVP of the championship game, finishing with a team-high 23 points. Simmons appeared in 94 games while in Austin, averaging 12.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 block in 28.8 minutes. He was named to the 2015 NBA D-League All-Defensive Third Team.
Dawson played in 99 D-League games averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over his career. He was twice called-up to the Spurs in 2012, where he appeared in four games averaging 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds. He most recently played in Puerto Rico.
Terrence Woodbury also played two seasons with Austin, including the 2012 Championship team. In 61 games, Woodbury averaged 10.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.9 minutes. Devondrick Walker's performance at last year's tryouts earned him a spot on the 2014-15 roster, where in 34 games he averaged 3.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in 11.1 minutes of play.
Local player tryouts provide players an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the Spurs basketball operations staff and local coaches. Attendees compete to earn an invitation to the Austin Spurs training camp in November. The Austin tryouts will be held at Concordia University, 11400 Concordia University Drive, and the San Antonio tryouts will be held at the George Gervin Youth Center, 6944 South Sunbelt Drive.
Tryout participants should submit the required registration, disclosure and release forms, along with a $150 non-refundable fee prior to Sept 7. Walkup registration is subject to availability. Acceptable forms of payment are a cashier's check or money order. Tryouts are limited to the first 100 registered players who submit completed registration forms and payment.
