Austin FC Aquire Midfielder Emanuel Perez on Loan for the 2021 MLS Season

Austin, Texas - Austin FC announced today that the Club has acquired 22-year-old midfielder Emanuel "Manny" Perez on loan from the Portland Timbers for the 2021 MLS season in exchange for Austin FC's 2023 natural third-round SuperDraft pick, with the option to trade for the player's permanent rights at the conclusion of the '21 season. Additional conditional General Allocation Money (GAM) could be delivered to Portland based on performance benchmarks.

Perez (pronounced PEH-rehz) was previously with Scottish Premiership side Glasgow Celtic F.C. and was sent on loan to the USL Championship's North Carolina FC from Celtic for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. With North Carolina FC, Perez made a total of 37 appearances (25 starts), scoring one (1) goal and contributing five (5) assists.

The North Carolina State University and North Carolina FC Youth Academy product spent two (2) collegiate seasons with the NC State Wolfpack (2017-18), making 29 appearances (28 starts) and logging six (6) goals and nine (9) assists. Perez was named ACC Freshman of the Year in 2017 and earned All-ACC honors twice.

Internationally, Perez has played 12 matches with the U.S. Youth National Team, making five (5) appearances, and scoring two (2) goals with the U-18 team, six (6) appearances and scoring one (1) goal with the U-20 team and making one (1) appearance with the U-23 team. Perez was part of the 2018 U-20 Concacaf Championship team, which secured qualification to the 2019 U-20 World Cup in Poland.
