Austin FC Announces Updates to Technical Staff Ahead of 2023 Season

Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC announced on Tuesday updates to its technical staff ahead of the 2023 season. Nolan Sheldon, who served as an assistant coach during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, has moved into the role of Technical Advisor. In addition, the Club has hired Terry Boss as a new First Team Assistant Coach.

As Technical Advisor, Sheldon will work with the Club's first team, second team, and academy to ensure that players and coaches are aligned on philosophy and methodology. Sheldon initially joined Austin FC ahead of the team's inaugural MLS season in 2021, and previously spent 10 years with D.C. United - including five (5) seasons as an assistant coach.

Sheldon's coaching credentials include the Elite Formation Coaching License (French Football Federation / MLS) (2014), The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Academy Director's Course (2016) and the USSF Pro License (2019).

"With the addition of Austin FC II, the Club now has a complete pathway from the youngest age levels of our academy through the first team," said Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna. "Having Nolan in the role of Technical Advisor will help align Austin FC's player development structure while allowing for players to transition smoothly transition between levels."

Boss joins Austin FC's first team as Assistant Coach having most recently served as the men's soccer Head Coach at Oregon State University. Boss was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2021, earning a No. 1 national ranking and No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2021. While at Oregon State, Boss coached midfielder Sofiane Djeffal, whom Austin FC acquired in November 2022.

Boss' other previous experience includes time as Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach for the United States Men's National Team (2019), Associate Head Coach for the University of Virginia (2014-2017) and Assistant Coach for both Oregon State (2013-2014) and his alma mater, University of Tulsa (2012-2013).

"Terry brings over a decade of coaching experience to our staff, has an excellent tactical understanding of the game, and a proven history of player development," said Austin FC Head Coach Josh Wolff. "We're very excited to bring him on board, and I want to wish him and his family a warm welcome to Austin and to the Club."

Prior to becoming a coach, Boss played seven (7) seasons of professional soccer from 2005 to 2011, including stints with New York Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders FC, and the Puerto Rico Men's National Team.
