Austin FC Acquires Free Agent MLS Forward and Two-Time Israeli Premier League Champion Aaron Schoenfeld

Austin, Texas - ‚ Austin FC, the 27th club in Major League Soccer (MLS), announced today the signing of free agent forward Aaron Schoenfeld ahead of the Club's inaugural 2021 season. Per League and Club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Schoenfeld becomes Austin FC's sixth forward and the 24th addition to the Club's roster.

"Aaron is a well-rounded player who has earned valuable MLS and international experience throughout his career," commented Austin FC Sporting Director, Claudio Reyna. "We are looking forward to seeing him integrate into our style of play and add depth to our growing squad."

Schoenfeld (pronounced "sho-EHN-fehld") spent the 2020 season with Minnesota United FC (MLS), where he made 15 appearances (four (4) starts) and scored one (1) goal, helping Minnesota reach the Western Conference Final. Prior to joining Minnesota, Schoenfeld spent five (5) seasons in the Israeli Premier League (2016-19), making 109 appearances (63 starts) across all competitions and tallying 23 goals. Schoenfeld's tenure also included 17 matches (12 starts), two (2) goals and three (3) assists in the UEFA Europa League. While in Israel, Schoenfeld won three (3) trophies with Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. in four (4) seasons, including two (2) Ligat ha'Al (2018-19, 2019-20) and one (1) Israel Super Cup (2019-20).

Prior to moving to Israel, the native of Knoxville, Tenn., played for four (4) seasons with Columbus Crew SC (2012-15), competing in 56 matches (17 starts) and tallying six (6) goals and three (3) assists. In 2014, Schoenfeld was loaned to Dayton Dutch Lions, where he scored 12 goals. Schoenfeld was drafted by Club de Foot Montréal in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft and was acquired by Columbus in 2013.
