Austin Bruins News Release

A night after the Austin Bruins (15-5-0) experienced their worst loss of the season, the team answered back with a 3-0 shutout of the Brookings Blizzard (4-11-5) Saturday at Riverside Arena in Austin.

After a frustrating Friday, the Bruins garnered a few more scoring chances in the first period Saturday, outshooting the Blizzard 11-5. Austin s Brian Bachnak (Brownstown, MI) was ejected for instigating a fight midway through the period with Brookings Russ Jordan (Aurora, IL). Jordan was tossed late in Friday s game for the same offense.

An evenly played second period also resulted in no scoring, but the story was the lack of penalties. There were 102 penalty minutes in Friday s game in Brookings, and 25 penalty minutes in the first period Saturday, but in the second period, there were only two penalties called.

Rookie Trey Dodd (St. Louis, MO) started the scoring at 4:07 of the third period, when he deflected a Jay Dickman (Shoreview, MN) pass past Blizzard goalie Austin Priebe (Wausau, WI). The Bruins were given a late power-play, and Brennan Sanford (Holt, MI) scored with two seconds left on the man-advantage on a wrap-around to make it 2-0. Dodd added an empty-netter as the Bruins remained unbeaten at home (8-0). Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN) stopped all 20 Brookings shots for his second consecutive shutout, as he upped his career record to 11-0 against the Blizzard.

The Bruins will host the Blizzard again next Friday night at 7:05pm, before traveling to Brookings Saturday for a 7:15pm start. Both games can be seen on fasthockey.com and Saturday s game will also be aired on 1480AM KAUS.
