Augie Record Holder Baumann Joins Canaries

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Canaries continued a week of key signings by adding former Augustana College All-American Nate Baumann on Thursday.

The 24-year-old rookie outfielder played his first professional season last year with the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League. He batted .283 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 86 games.

"We always want to give local guys a chance to play here in Sioux Falls," Canaries manager Steve Shirley said. "Nate can really hit. We're glad to have him and see what he can do for us."

While at Augustana, Baumann was a two-time Daktronics NCAA Division II All-American (Second Team in 2010 and Third Team in 2011) as a member of the Vikings baseball team. As a career .398 hitter in 183 collegiate contests, Baumann holds a number of career records at Augustana, including homeruns (49), doubles (49), hits (269), slugging percentage (.712), runs scored (205), RBI (192), total bases (481) and stolen bases in a season (40).

As a senior captain for the Vikings, the outfielder earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) First Team All-Conference Honors for the third consecutive season. He batted .389 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI with a lofty .719 slugging percentange. Baumann was also the only freshman named All-NSIC in 2008 when he took home Second Team honors.

Originally from Marshall, Minn., Baumann now resides in Sioux Falls.
