North Bay Battalion News Release
NORTH BAY, Ont. - Under new guidelines announced by the province Thursday, attendance at North Bay Battalion games is capped at 1,000 effective with the New Year's Eve game at 4 p.m. Friday against the Ottawa 67's.
With team, suite holder and corporate sponsor and advertiser needs accounting for 536 tickets, Battalion staff will work to contact eligible season ticket holders, on a seniority basis, to inform them of availability early Friday, said club president Mike Griffin.
Ontario imposed a limit of 1,000 spectators on large event venues as part of the latest attempts to suppress ever-increasing numbers of infections by the omicron variant of covid-19.
Memorial Gardens and other Ontario Hockey League arenas had been capped at 50 percent capacity after the Troops' most recent home game, a 7-6 overtime loss Dec. 16 to the Niagara IceDogs.
The Battalion plays host to Ottawa for the traditional Dec. 31 game for the second time, the first having come in 2014, when the Troops won 1-0 on a goal by Zach Poirier and 12 saves from goaltender Evan Cormier.
North Bay, which has lost a season-high five consecutive games, has a won-lost-extended record of 16-10-4 for 36 points, second in the Central Division. Ottawa is 12-17-2 for 26 points, fourth in the East Division.
Brandon Coe, the OHL's leading scorer, has 19 goals and 35 assists for 54 points in 30 games for the Battalion. Linemate Matvey Petrov has 51 points from a team-leading 20 goals and 31 assists in 30 games.
Cameron Tolnai is Ottawa's top points producer with 28, from seven goals and 21 assists in 31 games.
Game sponsor Subway is set to provide gift cards, T-shirts and other prizes, with water bottles to be given to fans when they leave the arena.
