Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit (12-13-1-0) return to The Dow Event Center Thursday night for a 7:05 p.m. matchup with the West Division-leading Soo Greyhounds (16-9-2-0). It's "Neverland Night" as we welcome Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Tinkerbell to the Red Room prior to the game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Head-to-Head
Tonight, marks the fourth of eight meetings this season between the Spirit and the Greyhounds. Soo has won two out of three, but their lone loss to the Spirit came at The Dow on Nov. 17 in a 4-1 decision. The Soo has two lopsided decisions to their credit in games played at GFL Memorial Gardens. Saginaw lost 8-4 on Nov. 3 and 7-2 on Dec. 5. The Spirit are 7-3-0-0 in their last 10 meetings with the Soo dating back to the 2019-20 season.
Last Time Out
Saginaw: The Spirit snapped a three-game slide to the Flint Firebirds with a nail-biting, 4-3 shootout win on Wednesday night. Saginaw held a 3-0 lead in the second period on goals from Matyas Sapovaliv and Dean Loukus (2), but could not hold the lead as Flint tied the score in the final minute of regulation. Grand Blanc's Dalton Duhart was given an opportunity to shoot, and won the game for Saginaw against his hometown team.
Soo: Trailing 3-0 and 4-1 at different points in the game, the Greyhounds battled back to a 5-4 overtime victory Wednesday night in the Soo. The Hounds received a four-point night from Calgary Flames prospect Rory Kerins and a goal and two assists from overage Tye Kartye.
Players to Watch
Saginaw: Matyas Sapovaliv
Sapovaliv earned first star honors Wednesday night with a goal and an assist against the Firebirds. The Czech-born center has been elevated to an A prospect by NHL Central Scouting heading into the 2022 NHL Draft.
Soo: Robert Calisti
The veteran defenseman has never been shy about adding to the Greyhounds offense, especially when playing the Spirit. Calisti leads all OHL defenseman with 11 goals this season, three of them have come against the Spirit in three games. Calisti also has two assists for five points this season against Saginaw, second-most on the Greyhounds.
Neverland Night
