Attack Weather the Storm, Win 5-2 at Home

Tonight the Owen Sound Attack took on the Guelph storm for their third match up of the season, but this time at home. The Bears were looking for revenge on their two losses at the Sleeman Centre earlier this season.

The Storm headed on their first penalty kill of the game at 3:58 when Isaac Ratcliffe was sent to the box for checking from behind. Owen Sound controlled the play but ultimately could not find the back of the net on their first powerplay of the game.

At 8:45, Maksim Sushko finds the back of the net for his second goal of the season to bring the score to 1-0 Attack. Sushko's goal was assisted by Nick Suzuki and Kaleb Pearson.

The Storm gained momentum being down in the game, and Cedric Ralph sniped the puck past Attaqck netminder Mack Guzda at 14:20 to tie the game up. Ralph's goal was assisted by Ryan Merkley.

Just over 20 seconds later, Daylon Groulx headed to the box for slashing at 14:42. The Attack were able to kill the penalty and keep the score tied.

Period one ended with a tie score of 1-1. Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal sat at 11 for the Attack and 9 for the Storm.

Kevin Hancock, who has been having an unreal week so far, took control and sent the puck past Storm netminder Nick Daws at 5:21 into the second for this 200th career point. The play was assisted by Brady Lyle and Aidan Dudas.

Hancock wasn't done there. He wraps the puck in behind daws on the rebund from Dudas to bring the Bears up by 2. Hancock's 9th goal of the season was also assisted by Sean Durzi.

Isaac Ratcliffe sent off for holding at 11:44 to send the Attack to another powerplay opportunity. The Storm maintain control for most of their penalty kill and score remains the same.

With just over a minute to go in the second period, Igor Chibrikov got caught high sticking and was sent to the box at 18:57, sending Guelph on a powerplay. Period ended, 3-1 Attack.

Isaac Ratcliffe landed a 10-minute misconduct at the very end of the second period.

Mark McDade shots on goal in the second period sat at 19 for the Attack and 5 for Guelph.

The Attack started the third period on the penalty kill as Chibrikov had 57 seconds left to serve on his infraction.

Aidan Dudas gets called for holding early in the period at 1:32 to send Guelph to their third powerplay of the evening. The Bears kill the penalty and keep the two-goal lead.

Rookie right-winger Kaleb Pearson thought a two-goal lead wasn't enough and sneaks the puck past Daws at 4:16 to bring the Attack lead to 4-1. Pearson's second OHL goal was assisted by Maksim Sushko and Nick Suzuki.

Cade Robinson wastes no time on his birthday weekend and sends one to the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Robinson's goal was assisted by rookie Griffin Wilson and Mitchell Russell at 9:31.

The Storm responded and Mason Primeau found the back of the net at 11:28. Primeau's goal was assisted by Daniil Chayka and Bareet Kirwin. 5-2 Attack.

Guelph Jack Hanley got caught hooking and was sent the box at 18:43. The Bears spent the remainder of the third period on the powerplay.

Buzzer goes, Attack win 5-2!

Owen Sound Attack's Kevin Hancock earned first star honours for the second game in a row, for his two goals, tallying his 200th career point. Second star honours went to Mack Guzda, stopping the rubber 18 times on the evening. Maksim Sushko earned the third star for his 1 goal and 1 assist tonight.

Aidan Dudas earned the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of the Game, voted by the fans.

At the end of three, Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 42-20, in favour of Owen Sound.
