Erie Otters News Release
ERIE, PA - The Erie Otters began the first of a back-to-back weekend homestand on Saturday night against the visiting Ottawa 67's, who came in on top of the Ontario Hockey League standings. In the first period, both teams shared opportunities in each other's zone. On an early powerplay, Otters forward Danial Singer rang a shot off of the post on a tic-tac-toe setup, which was followed up by an unsuccessful Ottawa powerplay. The period was highlighted by the lights-out play from the goaltenders, who sent the teams to the locker room scoreless.
The second period began much like the first, with the two teams trading opportunities on the powerplay. This even trend continued until late in the frame when the Otters gave up a shorthanded goal to Tye Felhaber, who chose to shoot on a 3-on-1 on opportunity.
The Otters came out in the third period hoping to tie the game up, but an early goal from Marco Rossi put the away team ahead by two. Things began to pick up for Erie as Brendan Hoffmann found the back of the net for the first time of his OHL career, and cut the lead to one. A pair of late penalties set up a 4-on-4 situation, picking up the pace for the home stretch of the contest. With under three minutes remaining, Erie took advantage of this heightened pace with a goal from Danial Singer to tie the game up at two, sending the game to Overtime.
In Overtime, Jamie Drysdale found Kyle Maksimovich on a 2-on-1 and the Otters' captain lifted it over the shoulder of Cranley to win the game for Erie.
Brendan Hoffman's third period goal was the first of his OHL career, and Danial Singer's was his first since joining the Erie Otters.
The Otters will finish up the weekend at home tomorrow against the Windsor Spitfires at 4PM.
