January 5, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

It was a reunion of sorts at the Bayshore tonight in Owen Sound. Frequent trading partners the North Bay Battalion made their annual visit to the Scenic City and with it came many familiar faces. Matthew Struthers, Mitchell Russell and Nick King all returned to Owen Sound, while Adam McMaster and Brady Lyle prepared to face old teammates in their first meeting of the year.

The Battalion took the early upper hand in tonight's contest, with Luke Burghardt scoring his first of the season off an assist from former Attacker Mitchell Russell just 6:47 into the game. Brad Chenier added his 21st of the year 15 minutes in and by the time the period ended it was 2-0 North Bay despite Owen Sound holding a 13-5 lead in shots.

The second period began with another former Attack player doing well at the Bayshore, as Nick King scored his 5th of the year off assists from Burghardt and Russell and it was a 3-0 game. The Attack continued to push back and 10 minutes into the period Bryce Caruk struck for his 2nd of the season and made it a 3-1 game. Assists on the goal went to Zachary Roberts and Griffin Wilson. Chances continued for the home team and Caruk had a few more chances to make it a brace, but the 2nd period ended 3-1 with Owen Sound again holding a healthy advantage in shots.

It didn't take long into the second period for the Attack to make their mark. Nick Suzuki struck just three minutes in for his 22nd of the season and it became a one goal game at the Bayshore. The power play struck again 3 minutes later and Brady Lyle fired one in from the point to tie it up. The Bayshore was alive again after the Attack climbed out of the 3-0 deficit. The Attack continued to push and the shot differential grew with Owen Sound outshooting North Bay 18-6 in the final frame. Christian Purboo stood his ground and kept it a tie game and it headed to overtime.

Owen Sound started out the overtime action with chances to end it, but North Bay was on the receiving end of a power play after a tripping call against the Attack. Mack Guzda came up big on the penalty kill and was able to extend this game to a shootout.

North Bay started first in the shootout but they couldn't get past Mack Guzda. He came up big on three consecutive Battalion attempts, giving Aidan Dudas a chance to win it for the Attack. He made no mistake and the Owen Sound Attack snapped a 7-game win streak by the North Bay Battalion for their second win of the new year. Shots on goal ended 47-24 in favour of the Bears.

Your Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was awarded to newest acquisition Andrew Perrott. 3rd star of the game went to the player who sparked the comeback for the Attack, Bryce Caruk. 2nd star went to Christian Purboo who turned away 43 Owen Sound shots and 1st star was Nick Suzuki, recording a goal and an assist in his first game back in Owen Sound.

Attack TV had a chance to chat with Nick Suzuki about his time at the World Juniors and his first star performance:

You can catch the Attack in action this Wednesday at the Bayshore as they take on the Kitchener Rangers for the 3rd time in 11 days.
