February 12, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Attack will go on their annual Eastern road trip this weekend as they take on Kingston on Friday, Belleville on Saturday and Ottawa on Monday before heading home for the week.
The Bears will be hoping to regain their scoring touch on the road trip as they have been held to five goals over their past three games. The Attack also sit 13 points ahead of Kitchener for the last playoff spot heading into action this weekend. Forwards Jaden Lindo and Zach Nastasiuk will each be game time decisions as they both nurse injuries.
Owen Sound @ Kingston: February 14th at 7:00pm
The Attack make their first and only trip to Kington on Friday night to play the offensively gifted Frontenacs. The Frontenacs sit 3rd in the East with 64 points on the season and first overall in goals scored. In their first meeting of the season, the boys came out on top 5-4 in overtime. The Attack will look to sweep the season series 2-0 with a win on Friday night while top NHL prospect Sam Bennett leads the charge in Kingston with 79 points on the campaign.
After coming out of the game strong, it's been an up and down campaign for the Frontenacs, but going into action on Friday, Kingston is winner of three straight game.
The Key to Victory: Containing the Fronts' offense will be the key. Despite their high flying offense, Kingston's powerplay is lumped in the middle of the OHL's special team rankings....which means they're that much more dangerous five on five.
Owen Sound @ Belleville: February 15th at 7:05pm
A quick turn around has the boys travelling back down the 401 on Saturday to face the lonely Bulls who sit in last place in the East, with a total of 34 points. The Attack played host to the Bulls back in November, which garnered a 4-3 outcome for the Bears. The boys will look to continue the road trip winning ways with another season sweep of an Eastern Conference team Saturday night at 7:05pm.
Both the Attack and Bulls were sellers at or leading up to the deadline, shipping away some older assets for younger player and/or picks. The Bulls sit dead last in the OHL standings, however; they have scored about the same amount of goals as Owen Sound. The difference is in goals allowed. The Bulls have allowed more goals than the Attack this far.
The Key to Victory: In the spirit of the Olympic games, let's focus on the big ice. Belleville's ice surface is Olympic size, which means there is usually a feeling out process for teams like the Attack that only play there once a year. Adjust to the ice surface and keep the game simple.
Owen Sound @ Ottawa: February 17th at 2:00pm
After a day's rest on Sunday spent watching Team Canada take on Finland in Sochi, the boys will travel to the capital to take on the 67's. Ottawa sit only one place above the Belleville Bulls in 9th with 41 points. The Bears will look to take advantage of the struggling teams to gain much needed points on the Saginaw Spirit. This will be the first meeting between Ottawa and Owen Sound this year. The boys will look to end their eastern conference road swing on a high note coming back to the Bay with a win in the Capital. Game time is for 2:00pm on Monday, Family Day in Ontario.
The Key to Victory: It's not often teams get a day of rest on the road, so it's a blessing. They'll be able to play hard for two games and get a full days rest. Use that rest wisely and the Attack should have a good chance!
Don't miss out on any of the action. The boys will be featured on local Rogers TV channel 53 or you can listen in on the game with Fred Wallace on AM560 CFOS for Kia of Owen Sound/Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio.
