Owen Sound Attack News Release
Despite a solid 60-minute effort, the Owen Sound Attack dropped a tough 6-3 decision to the London Knights on Friday night. Mack Guzda made 34 saves on 39 shots, while Maksim Sushko, Carter Robertson and Cade Robinson found the back of the net for the Attack in the losing effort.
The Attack continued their strong play from the past two games in the first period in Owen Sound and opened the scoring in the game after Kaleb Pearson outbattled three Knight defenders for the puck eventually sliding it over to Sushko who went five-hole to make it 1-0 for the Attack. The Knights would find a way to tie it up just before the mid-period break when Connor McMichael capitalized on an Attack defensive miscue. Daylon Groulx took a slashing penalty with just under four minutes remaining in the period and Adam Boqvist made no mistake on the power play burying it past Guzda's blocker to make it 2-1 for the Knights.
Despite a solid effort in the second period the Attack were unable to capitalize on a number of chances. Guzda made several sensational saves. Unfortunately, the Knights were able to solve Guzda two more times with Nathan Dunkley and Matvey Guskov lighting the lamp to extend the Knights lead to 4-1.
From the puck drop of the third period the Attack continued their strong play and were quickly rewarded when a long shot from the point off the stick of Carter Robertson bounced off the top of Joseph Raaymakers pad and into the back of the net, bringing the Attack within two. Both teams were able to sustain pressure at times, but it was the Attack that would once again find the back of the net and climbing with in one, when Cade Robinson broke down the wing snapped a shot past the blocker of Raaymaker. Two minutes later, while on a powerplay the London Knights were able to once again extend their lead when Alec Regula slipped the third rebound past Guzda. Alex Formenton added an empty netter for the Knights handing the Attack a 6-3 loss.
Attack defenceman Robertson was named the game's third star for his play and one goal, while goaltender Guzda was named the Hatten Home Hardware Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game having made 34 of 39 saves in the game.
The Owen Sound Attack will now finish off three games in three days when the Kingston Frontenacs visit the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on Saturday, February 9th at 7:30pm. Saturday night is the Reach, Shoot, Score game with all funds raised going to the Reach Centre of Grey Bruce.
