January 9, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United announced today that it has re-signed midfielder Amar Sejdić to a one-year contract for 2023 with club options for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Sejdić, who joined Atlanta in July 2021, played in 23 matches last season.
"We are happy to bring Amar back to the club after his contributions the last two seasons, Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "A proven MLS midfielder, he is a highly intelligent player who reads the game well and has a good understanding of how the coaching staff wants to play."
Sejdić came to Atlanta in a trade from CF Montreal in the middle of the 2021 season. He's played in 33 matches, including 23 starts, for Atlanta. In 2022, the midfielder set new career-highs in matches played (23), starts (18) and minutes played (1,320). He recorded his first-career MLS assist on Aug. 28 in a 3-2 win vs. D.C. United. His second assist of the campaign came on Sept. 10 in a victory against Toronto FC. His pass completion percentage has been over 81.0 percent in each of his four seasons in MLS.
A graduate from the University of Maryland, Sejdić had an illustrious college career that was capped off by winning the 2018 NCAA Championship, in which he scored the game's only goal, en route to being named the College Cup Most Valuable Player. In four seasons at Maryland, he played in 82 matches, scored 22 goals and added 16 assists.
