
Atlanta Dream to Participate in Numerous Community Events

ATLANTA, May 20, 2015 - The WNBA Atlanta Dream will participate in a series of events beginning Wednesday leading up to the team hosting the Atlanta Dream Classic - a doubleheader of WNBA preseason games - on Saturday, May 23.
The Atlanta Dream Classic will take place at the KFC Yum! Center, with the Dream playing the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. ET, following a contest between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun at 5 p.m. Tickets for the Atlanta Dream Classic can be purchased at the KFC Yum! Upon arrival in Louisville on Wednesday, the Dream will partner with Academy Sports + Outdoors to host a fun-filled day, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Academy's store located at 4901 Outer Loop. The event will include a Dream FIT basketball clinic, a private youth shopping spree and an autograph session with former University of Louisville All-Americans Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel .
The event will begin with a private shopping spree with 20 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kentuckiana, who will each receive a $50 gift card to shop for anything in the store. Following a media session with McCoughtry, Schimmel, Dream head coach Michael Cooper and Dream President and General Manager Angela Taylor, the clinic will begin at 5:30 p.m. The clinic, which will also include Dream players Samantha Logic and Lauren Okafor, will include a lay-up and shooting station, ball-handling station and defense station. The autograph session featuring McCoughtry and Schimmel will also begin at 5:30 p.m.
On Thursday, practices at the KFC Yum! Center will begin in the morning for three of the four teams, with scrimmages involving all four teams scheduled for late afternoon. All practices and scrimmages during the week will be closed to the public.
Following the Dream's morning practice, the team will host an Inspiring Women Luncheon in the KFC Yum! Center's Hickman Camp Room from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. The topic for the luncheon will be "The Future of Women in Sports Leadership" and will include McCoughtry and Taylor as panelists, as well as another former U of L standout, Jude Schimmel, who will be signing copies of her new book, "Dreamcatcher".
Other panelists include Kara Lawson, currently of the Washington Mystics and a basketball analyst for ESPN; Anne Donovan, head coach of the Connecticut Sun; and Christine Herring, Senior Woman Administrator/Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Louisville. The event will be moderated by ESPN and FOX Sports basketball analyst LaChina Robinson. The event will also include a recorded video interview with Atlanta Dream owners Mary Brock and Kelly Loeffler. Prior to Saturday's games, a pre-game Fan Fest will be held at the KFC Yum! Center Plaza from 3-5 p.m. The family-friendly entertainment will include face painters, a balloon artist, dancers and a Pop-a-shot, while fans can purchase Dream merchandise, including items featuring McCoughtry and Schimmel. After the games, selected players from all four teams will participate in autograph sessions.
The Dream will also partner with Integrating Woman Leaders (IWL) Foundation while in Louisville. The Dream will provide a "Dream Classic VIP Package" that includes two premium Atlanta Dream Classic tickets as well as access to a pre-game VIP reception and post-game autograph session for the silent auction at IWL's inaugural Brand You Women's Leadership Conference in Louisville on May 21 being held at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.
Saturday's games will also include 200 children in attendance whose tickets were purchased by Prospect/Goshen Rotary and distributed to youth from Boys and Girls Scouts through Stock Yards bank; The Louisville Central Community Center; The Chestnut Street Branch of the YMCA; Bridge Kids International; and Boys and Girls Haven. Kids from those groups will also be a part of unique fan experiences during the game, such as Ball Exchange, Anthem Buddies, Fan Tunnels and Autograph Sessions.
The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream opens its eighth season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 5 at New York, with the home opener slated for Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. ET vs. the Connecticut Sun. The Dream, which plays its home games at Philips Arena, has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
