Clearwater Threshers News Release

Willians Astudillo came through in the clutch for the Clearwater Threshers on Monday, delivering the go-ahead single with two outs in the ninth to lead Clearwater to a 3-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle.

Clearwater (14-5) took three of four at Fort Myers (12-7), and the Threshers have yet to drop a series since the start of the second half.

Ricardo Pinto gave Clearwater another strong start, but did not factor in the decision. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, and permitted two runs - one earned - on six hits and a pair of walks.

The Threshers took the early lead with two runs in the second inning off Aaron Slegers (6-5).

Aaron Brown kicked it off with a double, and Chace Numata singled to left. Astudillo then put Clearwater ahead, lining a single to right to score Brown. With runners at the corners, Chase Harris grounded into a double play, but that allowed Numata to cross the plate and make it 2-0.

The Miracle quickly cut that lead in half, as Jason Kanzler tripled home a run in the bottom of the second.

That score held all the way into the seventh.

A pair of one-out singles and a two-out walk loaded the bases for the Miracle, and Yacksel Rios entered in relief of Pinto. A passed ball charged to Numata scored Mitch Garver from third, knotting the game up at two.

It was Astudillo who delivered for the Threshers in the ninth, putting Clearwater back in front, 3-2.

With runners at the corners and two down, Astudillo lined a base hit to the opposite field in right to bring home Andrew Pullin with the decisive run.

Rios (5-2) earned the win after holding the Miracle scoreless through 1.1 innings. Ulises Joaquin earned his 11th save by tossing a zero in the final frame.

The Threshers will be off on Tuesday, before returning home to Bright House Field on Wednesday as they host the Palm Beach Cardinals at 7 p.m. The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network beginning at 6:45 p.m.
