
Asheville's Dramatic Comeback Thwarted

Greenville, SC - What was an improbable comeback turned into a devastating loss on Sunday as Greenville defeated Asheville 13-12 with a walkoff three-run homer by Che-Hsuan Lin. The Tourists trailed 6-1 after the first inning and 10-2 heading into the seventh and then rallied for 10 runs in the final three innings to take a 12-10 lead.
Everth Cabrera hit his fourth homerun of the season in a five-run eighth inning to pull Asheville within 10-9. Darin Holcomb led off the ninth inning with a double and moved to third base on Jeffrey Cunningham's fourth hit of the day. Holcomb scored the tying run on a single by David Christensen. Brian Rike put down a sacrifice bunt to move Cunningham to third and Warren Schaefer singled to left field to plate Cunningham and give the Tourists an improbable lead. Lars Davis would add an insurance run with a fly to left and the Tourists led 12-10 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
With the bullpen stretched thin due to an abbreviated start by Sheng An-Kuo, Randal Taylor was brought on in the eighth and began the ninth inning. Greenville's Ty Weeden hit a single off the third base bag to begin the ninth and Taylor struck out the next batter Oscar Tejeda. The Drive then pinch hit Ryan Kalish and Kalish worked a walk to end the day for Taylor. Craig Baker entered to face Che Hsuan-Lin and Lin hit the first pitch over the wall for a three-run walkoff homerun.
Kuo, began the came for Asheville and had a hard time finding the strike zone. Kuo allowed six runs ( no earned) in just 2/3 an inning. Edgmer Escalona relieved Kuo and gave Asheville his longest outing of the season with 3 1/3 innings of work.
Everth Cabrera had the first five hit game of the season for a Tourists and every batter had at least one hit. The Tourists have now lost three consecutive games against the Drive and will look to Robison Fabian (0-2, 8.59) to turn things around on Monday in Greenville at 7:05.
