Columbus Wins Big for Their Seventh Straight

Columbus Catfish News Release


Columbus, GA - Brian Flores (6-3, 3.53) took the mound Sunday night for the Catfish against Rome's Tommy Palica (5-2, 4.46). Columbus struck quick and often scoring in 6 of the 8 innings. The Catfish had 13 hits and 11 runs to win the game by a score of 11-2. All 9 Catfish players earned a hit in the game. Columbus's win streak is now at 7, and the Catfish have started the second half with a 9-1 record.

The first hit of the game for Columbus came by way of a triple from Cody Cipriano in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Catfish wasted no time taking advantage of the triple as Quinn Stewart the next batter singled sending Cipriano home putting the Catfish up 1-0. The Catfish struck again in the 2nd inning via an Omar Luna single scoring Henry Wrigley. Columbus would strike again in the 4th inning as Stephen Vogt scored on a fielder's choice hit off of Shawn Williams. After 4 innings the Catfish were up 3-0.

Rome attempted to get back in the game in the 5th inning with a score by Samuel Sime off of line drive single by Carlos Lee, but that would be it for Rome and Columbus would remain up 3-1.

Columbus really took it to Rome in the 6th and 7th inning putting up 3 runs in each. In the 6th Rome brought in Rico Reid (0-0, 0.00) who allowed all 9 batters to bat. Quinn Stewart the first batted double, and was followed by a double from Gregory Sexton scoring Quinn making it 4-1. A batter later Henry Wrigley hit a single scoring Sexton, and than a batter later Ian Paxton would do the same for Wrigley making it 6-1 Columbus.

Quinn Stewart once again started the inning for the Catfish like he did in the 6th and this time would reach on a walk. Gregory Sexton the next batter would hit a double scoring Stewart. Stephen Vogt would follow up Sexton's performance with a home run extending the lead to 9-1 over Rome.

Rome once again would try to get things starting scoring Michael Fisher with a single by Cody Johnson, but would be halted by Columbus keeping the score at 9-2 in favor of the Catfish.

With a 7 run lead the Catfish were not done as Cody Cipriano would hit a 2 run home run scoring Maiko Loyola and extending the lead to 11-2, and that is where the score would stay. Despite only having 3 more hits than Rome 13-10, Columbus won by an impervious 9 runs to extend their win streak to 7. Brian Flores would also pick up his 7th win of the series going 7 innings giving up no earned runs over 8 hits.

The Catfish will now head to Rome after a short two game series in Columbus to face the Braves for another 2 games. Columbus will look to extend their win streak to 8 as Jeremy Hall takes the mound for the Catfish at 7:00 pm.
