Orangeville A's News Release
LONDON, On.- Brampton defeated the London Lightning 119-116 Sunday afternoon for the first time in London this season. The victory marks the A's fourth straight win as they now sit at 12-10 on the season.
Brampton got out to a great start as they managed to move the ball well, in addition to utilizing its post presence for a number of second chance opportunities. The first half featured five lead changes and four ties, as both teams split the stint with comfortable leads. Despite shooting about the same percentage from the field, London ended the half with a 54-50 advantage after notching 14 points off of turnovers.
Kyle Johnson headed to the locker room with 13 points at the half, while Tom Granado recorded 10 points. Former A's player Brent Jennings, led the Lightning with 11 points.
After a shaky start to the second half, Brampton mirrored its first half play with respect to sharing the ball and attacking the rim to end the third up by seven. The final period went back and forth until the A's snagged a 10 point edge midway through the quarter. The A's momentum was disrupted as Marvin Phillips of the Lightning hit two three-pointers that allowed the home team to take a slight lead. Brampton remained poised and played with the clock to ensure they made the best last minute offensive decisions. Key free-throws and rebounds solidified the win for Brampton despite London's late surge.
In a balanced attack, nine A's players scored in double figures led by K. Johnson who finished with 17 points. Former Lightning Zane Johnson notched 16 points on his old stomping grounds, while Akeem Scott recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 assists. Phillips led all scorers with 27 points for London.
Next up, the A's will host the Island Storm at the Powerade Centre for a 7 pm contest Thursday, January 29th. Brampton will hit the court the following day to conclude its back-to-back home contests against the Lightning. Friday is 'BMO Fan Appreciation Night' as BMO clients will receive special VIP treatment in addition to a fun filled night. For tickets please contact tickets@bramptonas.ca.
