Indianapolis Ice News Release
MORIN AND THE MAGIC STICK: Ice newcomer Etienne Morin made his presence felt in his first weekend with Indianapolis as the rookie winger tallied two of the teams' three goals on the club's Texas road trip. His first lamplighter in Fort Worth on Saturday night was his first professional goal and it was the team's first shorthanded goal of the season. Morin arrives in Indianapolis after beginning this season with Greenville (ECHL), where he notched an assist in four games of work. He spent the previous four years as a member of the Colgate University Raiders (ECAC-NCAA I) and amassed 62 points (31G, 31A) for his collegiate career.
SHOOTOUT CURSE TERMINATED: The Ice finally put two points on the board in the shootout with Friday's 5-4 shootout win over the Oklahoma City Blazers at Conseco Fieldhouse. Indy had dropped nine straight in the extra session dating back to last year with the team's last shootout victory coming in a 4-3 win over Memphis on 11/22/01. Scott Lewis, Bernie John and Kevin St. Jacques tallied shootout scores on Friday, while Jamie Morris turned back three of five Blazers' attempts.
STREAKS OF ALL SORTS: Jason Baird has a point in all eight Ice games this year and leads the team in scoring with 11 points (6G, 5A) on the year...His six goals also ties him for third in the CHL...Greg Olsen has awoken offensively as he tallied three points (1G, 2A) in three games over the weekend...Ryan Aikia has a six-game penalty minute streak...The Ice ended an 0-34 drought on the power play with Bernie John's power play goal Friday against Oklahoma City...The Ice killed off 17 straight opponents' power plays before Dan Price connected for Austin this past Sunday.
TRAVEL TROUBLE: The early season road woes continued for the Ice over the weekend as the team dropped both games in Texas and remains just one of two teams (El Paso) in the CHL yet to win a road game. Indy, who is 0-3-1 in its four road contests, has struggled for the most part on the offensive end as the team has just five goals in the four road games and is just 1-31 on the power play.
ICE QUICK BITS: Defenseman Kevin Popp had an Ice season-high 19 penalty minutes against Austin on Sunday...Randy Holmes is just two points shy of 450 for his pro career....The Ice is now 14-9-1 all-time at Conseco Fieldhouse...Indy is the least penalized team in the CHL (123)...The Ice is last in the CHL in goals (17) and on the power play (3-50, 6.0%)...Indy is one of four CHL teams yet to allow a shorthanded goal.
SCOUTING REPORT: The Ice has lost five straight games to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs dating back to last season and has been outscored in those five games, 27-8...Indy's last win over the Mudbugs was a 1-0 blanking on 1/25/02 when Jamie Morris made 48 saves to preserve the shutout...Indy is 12-7-2 all-time against Wichita and was 5-5-0 against the Thunder last season...Morris has silenced the Thunder during his career as the fourth-year netminder is 8-1-1 with a 2.35 GAA all-time against Wichita.
UPCOMING: Friday night's game (11/8) is "Men's Night," as all men 18 and older get in for only $8 and $6 in games at the Pepsi Coliseum. Sunday's late matinee (11/10) is a "Marsh Family Day," where with each full paying adult one kid 12 and under gets in for free.
