SCORPIONS MATCH-UPS -
LAREDO - After a slow start on a season-opening six game road trip, the expansion Bucks opened the new Laredo Entertainment Center this weekend with a bang, winning both games and scoring seven goals in each. Forwards David Gove (3g-10-13pts) and Eric Schneider (9g-3a-12pts) rank among the top ten scorers in the CHL, as Schneider's nine goals heads the pack. Defenseman Michel Periard (3g-5a-8pts) ranks sixth in the league among blueliners. All three players were acquired through the Bucks' affiliation with the NHL's Florida Panthers. Goalie Lance Leslie, acquired from Lubbock in the expansion draft, has a 3-3-1 record with 3.64 GAA and .900 save percentage. The Bucks are third in the league in penalty minutes per game at 35.5, just behind Oklahoma City (36.1) and Amarillo (35.6). Laredo also tops the CHL by scoring almost four goals per game.
LUBBOCK - The Scorpions and Cotton Kings meet for the second time in eight days on Saturday. The teams have split a pair of meetings this season, with the home team winning each time. The Cotton Kings are led in scoring by one of their three Slovenian players, winger Blaz Emersic (4g-7a-11pts). Defenseman James Sheehan is tied for second in the league with a +9 plus/minus rating. Goalie Mike Brusseau has started all seven games for the Cotton Kings, posting a 3-2- record with a 2.29 GAA and .919 save percentage.
TULSA - The Oilers play the Scorpions three times this season, and all three games are over a two-week span starting Sunday at Tingley Coliseum. Tulsa currently leads the Northern Conference with a 7-1-0 record. Marcellus also leads the league with a +10 rating. Jamie Steer is right behind with seven goals and 11 points. Goalie Rod Branch is second in the league among goalies with more than one game played, going perfect in all seven starts with a 1.26 GAA and .962 save percentage.
