Hot shooting sparked the Charge to start the game, connecting on 72.7 percent of their shots at the halfway point of the opening frame which built the Canton lead to six at 19-13. The Charge's advantage would reach as high as eight, but Springfield fought back with a pair of late treys from Thomas along with five straight points from Larry Anderson to close the period to take a 28-27 edge into the second quarter.

The tight-knit game saw five lead changes in the second quarter, but the Charge were able to grab a seven-point advantage heading into the locker room. After Springfield clawed within three with 45 seconds to play, Canton rattled off four straight points to close the half and take a 57-50 edge into the break.

Canton outscored the Armor 34-18 in the paint and 9-8 on second chance points, but Springfield was on the run, holding a 14-10 advantage in fast break points.

Five minutes into the third, the Armor tied the game at 67, but a late Canton run left Springfield trailing by six entering the final frame. Canton cleaned up with nine second chance points in the period, outrebounding the Armor 9-6 and 3-2 on the offensive glass.

With Canton ahead 82-76 to start the fourth, Springfield climbed its way back to pull within just one with six minutes to play courtesy of six fourth-quarter points from seven-foot center Jeff Foote.
