Armor Snap T-Birds Winning Streak

Rio Rancho, NM - The Springfield Armor (5-12) used a hot fourth quarter to end the New Mexico Thunderbirds (10-7) six-game home winning streak and win 99-90.

In the first quarter, the Thunderbirds raced out to an early 13-2 lead. An L.D. Williams dunk at the 3:14 mark in the quarter got the Springfield back within four at 15-11. The T-Birds would score seven of the last 11 points of the quarter and lead 22-15 after one quarter.

The Thunderbirds extended their lead to 14 points in the second quarter, but then the Armor answered with an 11-2 run to make the score 36-31. Nine of the Thunderbirds 10 players scored in the first half and they would hold a 48-42 lead at the break.

Springfield took their first lead of the game in the third quarter, when they started the third quarter on an 18-6 run to open up a 60-54 lead. The Thunderbirds scored just 16 points in the third quarter, but would trail but just one point heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Thunderbirds closed to within four points, but then Springfield got hot and hit their next four shots including three 3-pointers as part of an 11-2 run. The run gave the Armor a 13 point lead.

New Mexico shot just 39% in the game and their 90 points were a season low at home.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Friday Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. when they visit the Idaho Stampede at Qwest Arena.
