
Armor Sign Tony Bobbitt

SPRINGFIELD, MA JAN. 31, 2011 ¬" The Springfield Armor announced the acquisition of Tony Bobbitt from the NBA D-League's Available Player Pool today. In order to make room on the roster, the Armor waived Chas McFarland due to injury. This will be Bobbitt's second stint as a member of the Springfield Armor and he will be in uniform for the Armor's game on Wednesday evening at Reno.
"We're excited to have Tony back as a returning player," Armor Head Coach Dee Brown said. "Tony has experience that should help balance the youth on our roster."
Bobbitt, a 6'4 guard from Daytona Beach, FL, played collegiately at the University of Cincinnati, where he played in 60 career games from 2002-04. During the 2003-04 season, Bobbitt averaged 13.4 points per game.
Following his career at Cincinnati, Bobbitt went undrafted and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played in two games with the Lakers during the 2004-05 season, totaling 5 points in 12 minutes of action before being released. Bobbitt then played 7 games with the Lakers during the 2005-06 preseason, averaging 3.3 points in 12.1 minutes per game before being released just prior to the start of the regular season.
Bobbitt joined the NBA D-League during the 2006-07 season and began his D-League career with the Bakersfield Jam. Bobbitt appeared in 18 games with the Jam, starting 6. Bobbitt averaged 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 27.2 minutes per game with the Jam before being dealt to the Colorado 14ers (now the Texas Legends). Bobbitt played the final 18 games of the 2006-07 season and three playoff games with the 14ers, averaging 11.8 points, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 22.9 minutes per game.
After going overseas, Bobbitt returned stateside and joined the Maine Red Claws during the 2009-10 season. Bobbitt played in 30 games with the Red Claws, starting 6. He averaged 12.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 25.2 minutes per game before being traded to the Armor. Bobbitt appeared in 7 games with the Armor (all starts) and averaged 19.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 37.6 minutes per game. Bobbitt was waived due to injury two weeks after joining the Armor.
In 2010-11, Bobbitt began the season with B.M.C. AEK Larnacas in Cyprus, where he played three games. Bobbitt then moved on to join Huracanes de Tampico in Mexico, where he appeared in 17 games through Jan. 12th.
McFarland appeared in 18 games this season with the Armor after being acquired via the NBA D-League's Available Player Pool on Dec. 9th. McFarland contributed 10.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 23.4 minutes per game as a rookie out of Wake Forest. McFarland was injured in Thursday's loss to Tulsa.
"Losing Chas is a tough break for us," Armor Head Coach Dee Brown said. "We appreciate Chas' contributions while he was in Springfield and we'll need other guys to step up in his absence."
The Armor hit the road on Wednesday to take on the Reno Bighorns at 10:00 p.m. EST at the Reno Events Center. The Armor will then conclude the week with 10:00 p.m. EST games on Friday and Saturday against the Bakersfield Jam. All Armor road games can be seen live on nba.com/futurecast.
