Arkansas Rivercatz News Release
PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Arkansas RiverCatz did something Saturday night their brethren from the northwest part of the state have not been able to do this year - beat the Texas Tycoons.
Whereas, the Arkansas Aeros, the American Basketball Association's top-rated team, are 0-2 against the Tycoons, the RiverCatz made it 2-0 in their favor against the Dallas-based team with a 147-129 victory at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The win left the RiverCatz at 10-6 on the season, while dropping the third-rated Tycoons to 15-5.
Arkansas led 68-59 at halftime behind 20 points from Kareem Reid. While Reid was slowed in the third, the RiverCatz' all-star selection, Jeremy Bell and Garrett Richardson sparked the team by combining for 20 in the frame as the hosts increased their advantage to 104-88.
The RiverCatz put up 43 points in the final stanza behind Kenny Langhorne's 10-point quarter. Bell and Reid each added 8 in the frame to finish with 33 and 30 points respectively.
Langhorne pumped in 24 for Arkansas with Shawnson Johnson contributing 23 more. Richardson (16) and newcomer Daniel Watson (12) also ended in double figures for the RiverCatz.
Benny West scored a team-high 27 points for the Tycoons, while Josh Gonner added 26 more.
The two teams will meet again Friday night in the Convention Center for a 7:05 p.m. tip-off. The RiverCatz, first, must entertain the Waco Wranglers on Thursday night before their shootout with the Tycoons.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
