Silverbacks Cox and Sims awarded ABA honors
January 15, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Buffalo Silverbacks News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - The Buffalo Silverbacks announced today that two players, Modie Cox and Antoine Sims, will receive special honors from the ABA at the All Star weekend in Halifax, Nova Scotia, January 28th. Antoine Sims has been selected for the East All Star team, averaging 28 points per game and leading the Silverbacks in scoring overall.
Modie Cox has been selected for the honor of the first ever ABA "Community Service Award" for his dedication and commitment to the Western NY community. Modie is the lead speaker of the Silverbacks community outreach initiative entitled "Do Your Best, Never Quit", which has recently resumed thanks to the support of Sahlen Packing Company. Over the course of the summer, professional basketball players from the Silverbacks made more than 70 appearances at local community centers, Boys & Girls Clubs and schools. The "Do Your Best, Never Quit" philosophy teaches children to focus on the effort they apply to a situation rather than the end results.
Modie stated, "This is a great honor for me and for the "Do Your Best, Never Quit" movement. It proves to me that the ABA is listening and has recognized how important it is for players to be positive role models and give back to the communities who have given us so much."
The next Buffalo Silverbacks home game is Jan 18th at Buffalo State College Arena vs. the Detroit Panthers.
