Arkansas RiverCatz to merge with Aeros

February 6, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas Rivercatz News Release

Pine Bluff, AR. The ABA Arkansas RiverCatz will merge effective immediately with the Arkansas Aeros due in part to the closing Monday of the Royal Arkansas Hotel and Suites, the Pine Bluff-based team's headquarters. RiverCatz management was informed late Sunday afternoon of the hotel's imminent closing, thus forcing players and coaches out of the facility the team used to house and feed its members. Due to the unforeseen circumstances, team officials arranged for the immediate merger of the two teams that were operating under the same ownership. The corporate office for both teams will be located in Bentonville.

The RiverCatz, who own a 17-7 record and the #15 ranking in the latest ABA Power Rankings, were set to play two road games this week in Texas. Team management for both Arkansas teams are discussing the options as it relates to the remaining playing dates on the RiverCatz schedule though nothing has been finalized at this time. The Aeros (20-2) are currently rated #1 in the ABA Power Rankings are set to host Houston at 705pm Friday at the All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale.

According to ABA league officials, "This caught us by surprise, but we saw no better alternative than to merge the teams with the housing situation as it was. We're trying to work things out so that the schedules are met. It should be a smooth transition." For more information, visit www.arkansasaeros.com or www.abalive.com.
