Arkansas Diamond Report Game 3

March 24, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Arkansas Diamonds News Release

A clutch field goal by Austin kicker Darren Brown sealed the Diamonds fate Saturday night in their 31-29 loss to the Turf Cats. The Diamonds had jumped to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter but things took a turn before the half. Tempers got hot and a defensive stand ended with two unnecessary roughness penalties and the ejection of Arkansas player Eli Ash. This kept the Austin drive alive an ended in a field goal to bring Austin back within 4 points at the end of the half. The offense however struggled at the start of the third quarter and turnovers continued to be a problem with a second interception by Turf Cat Kemmie Lewis.

Quarterback David Knighton came in to start the 4th quarter for the Diamonds after the offense was completely shut down for two straight quarters. He helped the Diamonds mount a 4th quarter comeback throwing for 52 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Knighton looked good leading the offense and seemed comfortable scrambling for yards if he saw an opening. The defense also made stand in the 4th quarter grabbing an interception and stopping a Turf Cat drive that would have put the game out of reach. While it was an impressive turn around in the end it was not enough. The Diamonds were unable to reach the goal line for either of the two point conversions they attempted and those points ended up being the difference in the game.

Abilene comes to Little Rock with 0-2 record to start their two game stint on the road. The Ruff Riders dropped their first two games at home losing their home opener to the West Texas Ruff Necks by 3 points and then falling last Saturday night San Angelo. While Abilene is the only winless team in the Lonestar East neither of their first two games were a blowout and in this league team should be over looked. And after the loss to the Austin Turf Cats the Diamonds know how dangerous a hungry team on the road can be. The Arkansas Diamonds are now tied for first in the East with the Corpus Christi Hammerheads as the Lonestar Division heats up in week 4!

The Arkansas Diamonds will host the Abilene Ruff Riders Saturday, March 20th at 7pm at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. The Diamonds will honor the military with a swearing in ceremony for the US Air Force. For tickets call 501-975-5425.
