Arizona's Cory Urquhart Named Sher-Wood/CHL Player Of The Month

The Central Hockey League announced today that Cory Urquhart of the Arizona Sundogs has been named the Sher-Wood/Central Hockey League Player of the Month for the month of March/2008. Urquhart will receive a custom leather jacket from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL to recognize his accomplishment.

Urquhart joined the Sundogs on February 20th and in just 16 games played he hit the 20 goal mark and had 13 assists. He finished the regular season with nine power play goals and four game winning goals and ended the regular season with a 10-game goal scoring streak (tied for the longest goal streak in the CHL this season). The Halifax, Nova Scotia native was the 40th overall selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2003 NHL draft. In 58 combined games this season, the 6-3, 196-pound forward has scored 39 goals seeing action with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs and the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones along with the Sundogs.

Other players receiving consideration for the monthly award for February include Amarillo's Bill Vandermeer and David Nimmo, Arizona's Alex Leavitt, Colorado's Riley Nelson, Corpus Christi's Justin Quenneville, Laredo's Jeff Bes, Mississippi's Chad Woollard, New Mexico's Konrad Reeder, Texas' Grant Jacobsen, Tulsa's Jeff Christian and Youngstown's Chris Richards.
