Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced today that bench coach Rudy Arias is leaving the baseball club to return to the Baltimore Orioles.

Arias, 53, has spent the last three seasons with the Goldeyes. His duties ranged from coaching first base, working with the team's catchers, throwing batting practice and filling in as the club's bullpen catcher.

"This was a really difficult decision for me. The Goldeyes have been a big part of my life for the past three years," Arias said. "Everybody treated me like I was in the Major Leagues and I will miss all the people in Winnipeg."

Arias will perform several duties with the Orioles, including throwing batting practice, catching bullpen sessions and administrative tasks. He will also be the only Spanish-speaking member of Baltimore's coaching staff.

"I think it's a great opportunity for Rudy. I am absolutely thrilled he gets a chance to go back to the Major Leagues," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney, who was a pitcher in the Orioles' system for five seasons. "He was a great asset to me over the past three years. He's very professional, very workmanlike. He's definitely going to be missed. I wish him all the best with the Orioles."

Prior to joining the Goldeyes' coaching staff, Arias was in the Majors with the Orioles from 1997-2007. Before that, he won a World Series title with the New York Yankees as their bullpen catcher in 1996. He also was with the Yankees in 1995, which is when he first connected with then-Yankees manager Buck Showalter, who is now the manager of the Orioles.

Season tickets and nine-game mini packs for the 2011 season are available by calling the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273) or visiting www.goldeyes.com.
