Argos Take On Ticats In September 11 Retro Game

September 8, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto - It was a time of political change, a time of cultural change, and a time of many wardrobe changes. But one thing that never changed in the 1960s was the heated rivalry between two of the oldest teams in pro sports - the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. This Friday night, the bitterest rivals face off again in a rematch of the Labour Day Classic as the Argos seek revenge and turn back time to the 1960s at Rogers Centre, presented by Pizza Pizza.

Both teams will showcase their retro uniforms as Argos alumni from the era will come out and be showcased at the game. The Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, will also be in retro uniforms and will perform to music from the 1960s. The videoboard will flashback to the 1968 East Final between the Boatmen and the Tabbies and other highlights of the decade.

At halftime, a tribute will be made to the Argos Player of the decade, Dick Shatto, and defensive tackle Jim Stillwagon will be named an All-Time Argo. The All-Time Argos ceremony will feature a video tribute, the unveiling of the banner, a gathering of alumni from all generations on-field, a short speech by Jim and a gift presentation by Argos President and CEO Bob Nicholson and Vice Chair Michael "Pinball" Clemons. In addition, fans are invited to meet Jim, Dave Raimey, Leo Cahill, Bill Symons and other alumni at a pre-game autograph session outside Gate 3 beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The 50/50 will benefit the Sick Kids Foundation and after the game, Red Tag Vacations will be giving away 10,000 $50 gift cards to fans as they exit the stadium. Argos fans are invited to head over to the Official Post-Game Party at Jack Astor's, 144 Front Street West, to say hi to some of your favourite Argos players and cheerleaders.
