Toronto Argonauts News Release
Toronto - Thanksgiving isn't the only time the Daily Bread Food Bank needs help and with everyone still in the spirit of giving thanks, the next Argos home game this Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Edmonton Eskimos will feature the 7th annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of Daily Bread Food Bank. Help tackle hunger in the GTA by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Purolator and Food Bank volunteers stationed around Rogers Centre.
Fans will have the opportunity to receive their photo with the Grey Cup at Gate 5 starting at 6:00 p.m. and enter a draw to win an autographed Argos jersey. In addition, every fan who downloads their photo with the Grey Cup is automatically entered into a draw for a trip for two to the 2009 Grey Cup in Calgary. Last year, Argonauts football fans helped raise 36,000 pounds of food for Daily Bread Food Bank. Since 2003, Toronto football fans have helped raise 109,880 pounds of food through the Purolator Tackle Hunger program.
As part of the new Level The Playing Field program, sponsored by Tim Hortons, the C.W. Jefferys Saints will be introduced with the Argos during player introductions. In its inaugural year, the program will see football teams return to four Toronto-area high schools with the help of a $10,000 donation to each school. More than funding, Level The Playing Field features mentorship, education and events including Argos player ambassadors, cheerleader ambassadors, pep rallies and an Argos Game Day to honour each high school football team.
A special silent auction is being held beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Gate 9A to benefit The Argos Foundation. Fans can bid on items including a game-worn retro jersey, the chance to have dinner with an Argos player, an Argos Cheerleaders VIP package and an autographed golf bag.
Members of the Central Ontario Building Trades will be in attendance and their charity, the Hammerheads, and the 20th anniversary of Rogers Centre, which they built, will be celebrated. As well, Jr. Cheer, which features young dancers on the field with the Argos Cheerleaders, will perform.
Fans should stay in their seats at halftime for the Wendy's Kick For A Million Eastern Quarter-Final featuring Paul Sinisi of Ajax, Ontario and Paul Conway of Stoney Creek, Ontario, as they compete for the chance to face the Western Finalist and ultimately kick for $1,000,000 at the Argos game on October 23.
After the game, fans can come down on the field to meet many of the Toronto Argonauts players and cheerleaders for autographs and photos during the popular See You on the Field. Supporters are also invited to join Argos players and the Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, at the Official Post-Game Party at Jack Astor's, 144 Front Street West, in downtown Toronto.
