
Argos DB Matt Black Staying Home in Toronto

Toronto - The Toronto Argonauts have re-signed Canadian defensive back Matt Black to a new contract that will see him return to the Double Blue in 2017, the club announced today. Black became a free agent on Tuesday when the CFL Free Agency window opened.
The 2017 season will mark Black's ninth in the CFL, all of which he has spent with the Argonauts who selected him in the sixth round (45 th overall) in the 2009 CFL Draft. In 109 CFL games, the Toronto native has recorded 128 tackles, 80 special teams tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two defensive touchdowns and a punt return touchdown.
The Saginaw Valley State product had his most productive season in Double Blue last season, registering a career-high 44 defensive tackles, 10 special team tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.
During his tenure in Toronto, Matt has been an ambassador and devoted member of the Argonauts' community initiatives including the club's longstanding Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program. He was honoured as the CFL's 2016 Jake Gaudaur Veterans Award recipient, presented annually to a CFL Player who best demonstrates the attributes possessed by Canada's veterans: Strength, Perseverance, Courage, Comradeship, and Contribution to Canadian communities.
