Toronto Argonauts News Release
On a day when Damon Allen, the CFL's all-time passing leader, joined the team, the Argos were also forced to make some difficult decisions to meet the mandatory 50 man (plus CFL College Draft picks) roster limit.
"After such an upbeat training camp, you hate when this day comes," said Argos Head Coach Michael "Pinball" Clemons. "We have so many talented players in camp, and the unfortunate flipside to that is that you are only able to keep so many of them."
The Argos announced the following roster moves today:
DL Eric England Signed as a free-agent
WR Hilton Alexander Released
RB Ben Gay Released
DL Willie Harvey Released
LB Marcus Hill Released
LB Martavius Houston Released
QB Stanley Jackson Released
RB Patrick McCall Released
WR Shockmain Davis Released
WR Ryan Dennard Released
DB Derick Fury Released
DL Rod Kelly Released
OL Thomas Rayam Released
OL John Terry Released
LB Aaron Thompson Released
WR Andre Talbot Placed on disabled list
P/K David Miller-Johnston Placed on disabled list
"While you don't enjoy making difficult roster decisions like this, we are very excited about where our team is at as we prepare to kick-off the regular season," said Clemons.
The Argos currently sit with 52 players on their pre-season roster and will face the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton this Tuesday (June 10th) in their final pre-season tune up. The regular season kicks off on June 19th at SkyDome as the Saskatchewan Roughriders come to town.
