Argonauts sign David Porter

Mississauga - Days before the Scotiabank East Division Championship at Rogers Centre, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to welcome OL David Porter to the Club's practice roster.

David Porter is a former University of Iowa Hawkeye who started at tackle as a Junior and Senior. He earned All-Big Ten Conference honourable mention, helping his offence average more than 400 yards per game. He most recently attended training camp with Indianapolis, Buffalo and Green Bay of the National Football League.

The Toronto Argonauts also announced that OL Ulish Booker has been removed from the Club's practice roster in order to re-sign the with Pittsburgh Steelers.

Acquired: Signed with Toronto as a free agent on November 15, 2005.

2005: Attended training camp with the Indianapolis Colts and released during training camp...selected by the Berlin Thunder in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Europe League Free Agent Draft.

2004: Attended Buffalo Bills training camp and released on August 31.

2003: Signed by the Green Bay Packers as an un-drafted rookie on May 2 and released on August 26...signed a practice roster agreement with the Buffalo Bills (NFL) on December 2.

College: 2002: Started final two years at Iowa as a right offensive tackle...granted a fifth year of eligibility...earned All-Big Ten Conference honourable mention...recorded 52 key blocks...helped offence average 432.5 yards per game...2001: All-Big Ten Conference second-team choice... 2000: Started 11 games...1999: Saw action throughout the season but no starts...1998: One of four freshman to see action.

Personal: Well traveled, David was born in Germany and grew up in Belleville, Illinois. His wife was born in Toronto and his mother served in the US Army. Porter lists his Iowa University Head Coach Kirk Ferentz as having the biggest impact on his career. He plans to pursue coaching after playing career is over and lettered in football, track and basketball in high school. David plays five musical instruments and majored in pre-med at Iowa.
