AquaSox Win Consecutive Games for the First Time
April 24, 2024 - Northwest League (NWL)
Everett AquaSox News Release
PASCO, WA: The Everett AquaSox have their first winning streak of the season. The Frogs accepted nine walks from Tri-City pitchers, including six in-a-row in the second inning, which jumpstarted Everett's largest offense of output of the season, in a 15-2 win over the Dust Devils before a crowd of 1,014 at Gesa Stadium. Everett has won two in-a-row.
Tri-City starting pitcher Joel Hurtado (0-2) retired the first four AquaSox batters he faced until he began an odyssey that featured six consecutive walks. At one stretch, Hurtado threw 18 pitches outside the strike zone of home plate umpire Jabril Geter-Abdulah. The final walk of the inning - the third consecutive bases-loaded walk by Hurtado - was issued to Brock Rodden and scored Axel Sanchez to make it 3-0 Everett. That was it for Hurtado who threw 40 pitches; just 12 for strikes.
Later in the AquaSox 11 batter second inning, Ben Williamson delivered a bases-loaded three-run double which gave the AquaSox a 7-0 lead and put the Frogs on cruise control.
Everett starter Marcelo Perez went 4 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits and two runs. Perez was removed in the fifth inning as a precaution after feeling leg tightness. He is not expected to miss any time.
The AquaSox finished with nine hits. Brock Rodden was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two walks.
Ben Williamson batted 2-for-4 with his league-leading ninth double. He also finished with four RBI and leads the Northwest League in that category with 16.
The 15 runs were the most scored by the AquaSox this season.
NEXT HOME STAND: April 30 - May 5 versus the Hillsboro Hops.
