Everett AquaSox News Release
SPOKANE, WA: Victor Labrada (pictured above) and James Parker led the offense with two hits apiece as the Everett AquaSox won the opening game of a six-game series against the Spokane Indians, 7-6, before a crowd of 3,742 at Avista Stadium. With the win the AquaSox improved to 31-32 on the season and trail second place Spokane by a game and a half in the Northwest League.
Labrada tripled in his first two at-bats. He led off the game with a triple into the right field corner and scored with two outs on an RBI double by Dariel Gomez. With two on and one out in the second inning, Labrada again tripled down the right-field line to score Trent Tingelstad and Cole Barr giving the AquaSox a 4-2 lead.
With two outs and nobody on in the fifth inning, Dariel Gomez and Andy Thomas drew back-to-back walks against Spokane starting pitcher Mike Ruff (5-5). Moments later on an 0-2 pitch, James Parker belted his fifth homerun of the season, a three-run shot, against reliever Boby Johnson that extended the Everett lead to 7-2.
After scoring twice in the seventh, the Indians pulled to within one in the eighth inning on a two-run homerun by Bladimir Restituyo, which made it 7-6.
AquaSox starting pitcher Jimmy Joyce (2-6) settled down after a bumpy first inning allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out three, didn't issue a walk, but hit three batters.
Isaiah Campbell worked a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save.
