Everett AquaSox News Release
Everett, WA - The Everett AquaSox (0-1) started the 2018 season on Friday night at Everett Memorial Stadium with a loss to the Hillsboro Hops (1-0). Max Roberts made his first start as an Everett AquaSox, striking out six in the loss.
The six-foot-six left-hander went through two innings before allowing the two home runs in the top of the third. Hillsboro's Tra'mayne Holmes and Joey Rose both logged home runs against the newcomer Roberts, 3-0.
Returning AquaSox, David Ellingson, took over on the mound at the top of the fourth inning. Francis Martinez hit a double in the top of the fifth inning, as Hillsboro put two more runs on the board making the score 5-2, Hops.
Hillsboro would not score another run, however, and the AquaSox bats finally started connecting. Jansiel Rivera and Ryan Garcia homered in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings respectively off Hillsboro's Luis Castillo. Unfortunately for the AquaSox, the bats stayed quiet through the eighth and ninth innings. The game would end 5-2 Hillsboro.
No pitchers on either team allowed any walks on Opening Night.
Congratulations to AquaSox Matt Sanders, Nick Rodriguez, and Bobby Honeyman who logged their first professional hits Friday night.
The Sox will continue their five-game set against Hillsboro tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Group tickets, family outings and ticket packages are available for Saturday's Chris Taylor Bobblehead Giveaway Night presented by Sound Transit and the rest of the homestand!
