Maywood Buzz News Release
Maywood, CA. Playing its second game in a row, the ABA Orange County Buzz knocked off the Beijing Aoshen Olympian 112-97. "After losing to the Gallup Talons, we knew we had to come into the game and get a win," stated Head Coach Burrel Lee III. "I told my guys last night that I watched them play Thursday and they want to keep the game slow and low scoring, so we came out pressing and running," Lee added.
The Buzz led by four points after the first quarter, but the Olympian came roaring back in the last 1:30 of the 2nd quarter lead by Fred Vinson 3-3 from the 3 point line in that time span to take a 56-55 halftime lead.
The Buzz took control of the 2nd half outscoring the Olympian 57-41. "We knew we had to come and play hard; this is a good team with great players, but we stepped up the the challange and came out on top. This was a total team effort," added SG Lamar Gayle, who finished with 31 pionts, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
Orange County was led by Gayle, point guard A.J. Diggs 11 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists; forward Rudy Williams 16 pooints, 17 rebounds and Andre Jackson who was a spark off the bench with 15 points.
Aoshen Olympians were led by Fred Vinson's 23 points, Yue Sun's 11 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists, and Xin Jin who added 18 points.
Next for the Orange County Buzz will be a road trip across the Pacific Ocean to play a back to back set with the Hawaii MegaForce on Jan 14, 14.
