Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, WA - The Bellingham Slam used 20-point performances from three different players as they routed the Bellevue Blackhawks, 144-84, in an American Basketball Association game Sunday night at Whatcom Pavilion.

Caleb Gervin led the Slam in scoring for the eleventh time this season with 24 points, while Brandon Hartley and Mike Parker came off the bench to score 21 and 20 points, respectively. Bellevue's Greg Hendricks led all scorers with 25 points.

Bellevue caught Bellingham napping in the opening stages of the game, holding a 5-4 lead two minutes in, before the Slam awoke from their slumber and used a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to help establish a 40-20 first quarter lead. Cold shooting haunted the Blackhawks all night, as the team shot only 37% from the field, compared to the Slam's 60% shooting from the floor.

A 9-2 run to start the second quarter gave the Slam a 27-point lead two minutes in, and they eventually extended the lead to 32 as they led the Blackhawks 71-39 at halftime. Gervin led all scorers at the half with 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting.

Bellingham came out roaring after the break, as they opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run and outscored Bellevue 13-0 in the quarter's final two minutes to give the Slam a 55-point lead at 108-53 going into the fourth quarter.

With the Slam's starters on the bench for most of the final frame, the Blackhawks hung tough and were only outscored 36-31 in the quarter, with a thunderous dunk by T.J. Williams with 30 seconds left in the game punctuating the Slam's 60-point victory. The game was Williams' first since he was sidelined with a fractured hand suffered on December 8.

The Slam set new team records in the game for most points scored, fewest points allowed, most points scored and fewest points allowed in one quarter, and largest margin of victory.

The same two teams take to the Whatcom Pavilion hardwood for a rematch on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 p.m. For more information, call the Slam at 734-SLAM or visit their website at www.bellinghamslam.com.
