Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa Generals Memorial Cup hero, Anthony Cirelli, has been selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd round, 72nd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in Florida.

As a native of Woodbridge, ON, Cirelli was a free agent until committing to the Generals in August 2014. He has an impressive rookie season with 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 68 games. He managed to record 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 21 post-season games, to help his team become OHL Champions. In the final game of the MasterCard Memorial Cup, Cirelli scored the only two goals for Oshawa in a 2-1 win that crowned the Generals as Memorial Cup Champions for the first time since 1990.

He made a big jump in the NHL Central Scouting's Final rankings after going from 88 at the midterm rank, to 67 as of April 2015. His hard work ethic and ability to be effective on both power play and penalty kill units add to his skillset.

The Oshawa Generals congratulate Anthony and his family on his continued success.
