Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- Alex Trezza's third hit of the ballgame proved to be the charm, as his single in the bottom of the ninth scored Vinny Pennell from third for the sixth and game winning run. Pennell reached on an error charged to the third baseman Patrick Deschenes, then motored all the way to third on a Chris Colabello single. It was Trezza's third hit of the game; he also doubled and tripled in the 6-5 walk off victory.
Eric Gagne (0-0) arrived to the park to pitch tonight amongst much fanfare and was decidedly mediocre in his second CanAm League start. In five full innings pitched Gagne allowed five earned runs and allowed seven hits, receiving a no decision. The Worcester starter Ryan Mitchell (1-0) was bailed out by his offense after not having his best stuff. In only two thirds of an inning thrown he allowed the first four runners he faced to score and left the bases loaded for Josef Frias (0-0). Frias pitched well save the solo shot by Quebec catcher Greg Stevens.
Santiago Ramirez improved to 2-0 working two innings and striking out the side in the top of the ninth. The losing pitcher was Capitale closer Jason Schutt (1-2). Jeff LaHair and Nick Salotti added Tornado RBI's.
Tomorrow night local product and rookie Nick Conway (1-1) gets his second nod in the starting role this season for Rich Gedman, while Ivan Blanco (0-2) will throw for Quebec. First pitch 7:05, pre game on WTAG at 6:50.
Double header baseball action at the HIP tomorrow, as the first High School Long Ball Challenge presented by the Worcester Police Gang Unit will begin at 4pm. Ten dollars gets you into both events.
Note: Yesterday's game with New Jersey will be played as the first part of a double header Thursday, June 25th at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, NJ at 5:05pm.
