
Jova's Doubles Power Skyhawks to Victory

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Maikel Jova drilled three doubles and drove in four runs to power the Sussex Skyhawks to an 8-7 victory over the Brockton Rox on Friday night at Skylands Park.
Jova, who finished 3-for 4 with two runs scored, ripped doubles in the first, second and fifth innings to spearhead the Skyhawks' offensive attack. First baseman John Urick was also hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, including a 2-run homerun to excite the 3,327 in attendance. Over the past four games the Skyhawks are averaging 3,600 fans at Skylands Park.
Sussex starter Carter Clements (1-1) went five innings to earn the win. Sandy Nin held off a furious Brockton comeback attempt, throwing two innings of relief to pick up his first save of the season. John Kelly (0-3) was tagged with the loss for Brockton.
The Skyhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first with four hits, including three doubles. Jova stroked his second double of the game in the bottom of the second to extend the Sussex lead to 5-0. The Skyhawks added three more in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Urick's two-run blast.
Trailing by six in the top of the seventh, Brockton plated four runs on five hits to cut the Skyhawks lead to 8-6. Brockton added another run in the top of the ninth before Nin closed the door. Keith Brachold went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI for the Rox.
The Skyhawks and Rox return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. the second game of the three game series.
