St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Joseph, MO-Evan Thomas made the big pitches and Denver Kitch led the offense as the Blacksnakes (24-20) continued their climb with a 2-1 win over Sioux Falls (14-30). Thomas tossed seven shutout innings and Kitch had four of the 'Snakes six hits in the win.

St. Joe got an unearned run in the second with an error and two walks aiding the rally, with the run scoring on a bases loaded walk to Scooter Jordan. Jordan extended his streak of reaching safely to 42 consecutive with a pair of walks in the game.

It would stay 1-0 into the sixth when Kitch singled to leadoff the inning and Jordan would pick up his second RBI with a sacrifice fly for the 2-0 lead.

Thomas (3-5) struggled with his control, walking a team single-game high six batters, but only allowed four hits and stranded nine Canaries runners in his seven innings of work.

Sioux Falls got a run in the eighth against J.C. Huguet but stranded the potential tying run at third base before Jamie Tricoglou picked up his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.

Kitch had his first four-hit game of the year, and it just the third time a Blacksnake hitter accomplished the feat, and Jordan drove in both runs.

Now St. Joe has wins in 19 of their last 23 games, and goes for a four-game sweep of Sioux Falls Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium. Mark Nussbeck (4-1) starts for the 'Snakes against the Canaries' Tony Cogan (3-1). Gates open at 6pm for the 7:05pm first pitch. St. Joe then hosts the Pensacola Pelicans for a three-game weekend series before Lincoln comes to town over the 4th of July.
